“Water water everywhere not a drop to drink”, a great line from the poem, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. And the line portrays the truth, the day is not far when we will be dying for a single drop of fresh water to quench our thirst.
To prevent this problem, Swachh Garga Abhiyan an initiative led by Priti Ranjan Dash to clean the river Garga, a tributary river of Damodar which is again a tributary of the Ganges. It is a 46.5 km river that starts from Kasmar and culminates into river Damodar at Telmocho.
World Green Line has organized a Bicycle awareness campaign, a 40 km awareness trip on bicycle from Kasmar to Telmocho bridge which aims to clean and save the river Garga. Several NGOs like Nadi Bachao Jeevan Bachao have also supported the movement. On the way, many locals joined the revolution. Not only this, every weekend the team visits the check post-Garga bridge and organizes a cleanathon drive to extract all the waste materials from the river Garga. In a span of 3 years, several tons of garbage has been removed from the Garga.
World Green Line also spread awareness in the community residing by the banks of the river Garga to be safe and take precautions from the polluted river.
